Strengthening our relationship
Couples Therapy
‘Gottman Couples Therapy, developed by Drs John and Julie Gottman is evidence-based couple therapy built on decades of research. It provides a powerful framework from which to work on your relationship.
As a Certified Gottman Therapist, Anne has broad experience in supporting couples in the following areas:
- Preparing for marriage or long-term commitment
- Repairing from affairs and other betrayals or hurts
- Improving communication
- Rekindling emotional connection and friendship
- Managing blended family dynamics
- Working through extended family or in-law challenges
- Rebuilding sexual intimacy
- Identifying and working towards shared values and goals
- Preparing for, or adjusting to, becoming ’empty nesters’
- Preparing for, or adjusting to, becoming parents or parenting transitions. Find out more about preparing for parenthood below
Relationship Assessment and Feedback
One of the recognised benefits of Gottman Couples Therapy is that it commences with a structured, comprehensive assessment that provides a solid basis for therapy.
Without thorough assessment, couples therapy can miss important dynamics, hidden hurts and deeper meanings that are pivotal to the repair and strengthening of the relationship.
Assessment and Feedback are the starting point of your journey whether you’d like to have weekly sessions or marathon therapy.
Relationship Assessment and Feedback are normally undertaken as a 5 hour consultation
Prior to your first appointment the two of you individually complete the comprehensive online Gottman questionnaire
The five hour Assessment and Feedback consultation includes:
- First hour with both partners together
- Second and third hours with each of you individually
- Fourth hour – free for the two of you while Anne undertakes clinical analysis of results and prepares for feedback
- Fifth hour with both of you together again discussing relationship strengths, challenges, goals and recommendations for moving forward
Following feedback, Anne provides online resources and additional recommendations to support your relationship now and into the future.
Assessment and Feedback can be broken into shorter sessions; the first three hours on one day with feedback on a separate day
Anne offers regular weekly consultations of 2 – 3 hours and more intensive marathon therapy described below
Marathon Couples Therapy
Marathon therapy is an alternative to traditional weekly sessions and is becoming increasingly popular. It’s an opportunity to work in-depth with a highly trained and experienced therapist and fast track the work of improving your relationship.
Well Of Life offers single day and 2 day marathons. To optimise your time on the day/s, either of these options is preceded by Assessment and Feedback.
The benefits:
- This approach to therapy can fit more easily into regular life than longer-term weekly sessions.
- The initial, most difficult work of couples therapy is condensed into a shorter timeframe.
- Therapy has been shown to be most effective when work begins more intensely and then fades out.
Beyond your Marathon Couples Therapy Anne will provide further support, as needed, to promote integration of the new skills into your normal everyday lives. Anne wants you have confidence in your connection, and in the skills needed to sustain your growth as a couple as you move forward in life together.
Well Of Life offers Marathon Couples Therapy in Hawthorn or online.
Suitability for marathon therapy will be confirmed following Assessment and Feedback.
